East Bristol Hops project
What is it all about?
In 2016 we were approached by four friends who were planning to get a group of fellow Bristolians together to grow hops which would be delivered to us to brew a green hops beer in the Autumn.
We were delighted to get involved - and the response was fantastic; over sixty growers local to Dawkins produced 7kg of fresh, green hops which were added to the beer at a giant hop-stuffing party in September. 22 casks were made and distributed across our five pubs and free houses; it sold out in a week!
A competition was held for the name, the winning entry being Easton Promise.
Since that first year, the project has gone from strength to strength, so much so that in the second year the harvest was over 20 kilos - a significant milestone as it meant the 2017 beer contained only locally grown cones.
Bringing together people with a passion for beer, small breweries and their community has been the chief goal of the project since its inception, and we look forward to many more years of the partnership.
How to get involved
East Bristol Hops are always looking for new members.
If you'd like to join in next year's harvest, please either subscribe to East Bristol Hops mailing list, join their private Facebook group or drop them a line on email@example.com.
You'll then be amongst the first in the know when they're gearing up for the next year's harvest, which usually happens early in the new year and will be invited to their year-round socials.
